CRIME RATES SOAR AS MOBSTERS FILTER BACK TO THE UNDERWORLD
Almost 5 months ago on August 2nd 1937 was the date which set the scene for the biggest single handed coup of recent government history when they eradicated any trace of crime across the 6 cities of America by ruthlessly purging any citizen rumored to be associated or connected in anyway with the Mafia. Amongst the high profile casualties that fateful day were Mr. Valentine – the Don of C.U.N.T’s – Criminals under ninja training. He was one of the first casualties when he was murdered on his doorstep by an undercover police officer posing as a postman before hundreds of armed officers stormed through the HQ slaughtering any they saw. Other prominent figures in the seedy underworld to perish were Wes the bull, LaMadrina and Lefty2Guns of New York. The coup was called by senior Police chief Johnson "One of the most organized and devastating operations of the century that will have an impact greater than WWI that will take years to recover from…".
However… just one week ago the first sign of increased activity amongst the underworld took place when the reported instances of crime figures rose by 12% towards the end of December and the coming of January. Officials took this down to high levels of intoxication due to increased levels of liquor being imported following the ending of prohibition four years earlier. However, by January 5th figures began to arrive on the shores that would once again transform 6 cities from a quiet and relatively civilized society into a burgeoning hotspot of purse snatches, muggings and murder.
How the Mafia managed to withstand such a knock out blow to begin to recover so soon after the total annihilation of the country is unknown, but speculation is rife that the immigration is led by the descendants of those who inhabited the country previously.
STATE OF EMERGENCY ISSUED
Following the huge influx of crime and disaster across the cities President Montgomery Carcass announced a stage of emergency from a press conference in his Washington DC mansion of the White House. The announcement came following a spate of muggings across the 6 cities with citizens struggling to survive and several being beaten to death in the process.
Police forces were spread thin as a result of budget cuts following their short-lived triumph of the previous August and resources were dangerously stretched to deal with the amount of crime surge that was in process. In a desperate bid to regain law and order the armed forces were released to block people into their houses for their own safety. However, riots began and several dozen army officials suffered injuries in the scuffles that took place resulting in the state of emergency being lifted with immediate affect – on the condition that the business they concluded would now be limited. Furthermore, after more mass demonstration Whitehouse officials were forced to backtrack yet again with official spokesman for the President William Showerstall being quoted as stating "The President was only seeking to do what he thought was best for this country at this moment in time. It's necessary to call this state of emergency as prevention is cheaper than the cure". This statement along with the entire debacle has left many leading forecasters to predict that the President is either scared of the Mafia – or is in league with them; an ominous sign for what is supposed to be the most powerful nation in the World.
FIRST STREET BOSSES ANNOUNCED
The scramble for power officially began on January 8th when groups of hoodlums began to buy property to start their own gangs and become street bosses. It’s been a long time since anybody could claim to be preeminent amongst the criminal elite and several members of the community have already stepped forwards for a sense of the limelight.
Matty Rossi bought an old run down bar in the slums of Chicago which he intends to build up to be a much bigger part of the community. Their primary aim now is to reduce the amount of muggings by using his own band of thugs to control the area. Whether he has the power to succeed is questionable but his intentions are honorable. Another of those to come forward was a Miami gentleman named Misterio. His links to the mob were tied inexplicably with his father's past as a Capo in Aldo De Palma’s Franchetti family outfit, but now he runs a 'legitimate' fishing industry out of Miami with his associate Wildhorse who came out with a strong statement of intent regarding the fate of those who try "funny business".
Whilst the sentiments of these gentleman are to be admired, it has to be questioned whether they should be making such bold statements whilst they themselves are, as one member of society says "nothing more than glorified hoodlums with a place to hang". Perhaps it would have been better for these gentlemen to remain in the shadows along with other unnamed Street Bosses and The Independent will be waiting to see the repercussions of this act.
NOTE: The first Street Boss casualty was Denver resident Pale Rider who died from a fatal misfiring of his pistol on the evening of January 12th. Our condolences to these mens families.
STREET BICKERING CONTINUES DESPITE GENERATIONAL GAP
The long existing feud between East and West has continued already into the dawn of this new criminal caper. Just days into this fresh start tensions were simmering between those who chose to live along the Atlantic in New York and those in the Las Vegas, Los Angeles connection. Tensions were first seen to rise in OOC avenue but they never really threatened to boil over and cause disputes. Both sides at this stage were keen to emphasize that they were only interested in peace. Unfortunately, several days later the "BLAM Times" circulated a one off magazine special in which a secret hit list was revealed which contained threats and members of the now defunct Conceptualist group. These rumors were originally laid at ASDA's door before veteran member limester confirmed the hitlist before denying the Anti-Swan’s involvement in it – leading suspicion to be cast upon Ronin and his associates.
This would later come to a boil in an unrelated incident involving BLAM enthusiasts Frank Lucas and Jim Morrison. Allegations of bribery, corruption and the art of cons had been laid to rest at their door with claims that both these gentleman were receiving money for illegal firearms they didn’t actually possess essentially ripping off the customer. This led to a highly controversial mud slinging match between Ronin and his associates Lithium and Monster against an intoxicated Tormeh and Jim Morrison with several others getting involved. The argument eventually died out with neither side able to come out with any pride salvaged – only shattered expectations for the community of an end to the countrywide conflict and perhaps a return to peace.
